I was really looking forward to this movie. But, like you, when netflix kindly sent it my way and we started watching it my first thought was, This is why people abuse drugs. Altered states enhance tedium to comatose.
Glad I finally stumbled across your blog, even if you are on a yawn :)

I so agree with you there....thought this was going to be my kind of movie, and it just....wasn't. I love the dysfunctional indie-type films, too. But this just had too much wedding...I had to fast-forward through the toasts and the general wedding-ness. Not really a fan of them either, so I guess I should've known. But, Anne Hathaway was really great in this. I loved how messed up she was. It felt like the type of movie that could've been really good...a lot of good acting overall....but it just didn't deliver.

Weird - I got it from netflix last weekend too. I actually kind of liked the movie. I liked that there were no real "bad guys" - they were all just flawed and doing the best that they could. There were a lot of strange bits (the musicians got to me after awhile) but I thought the scene of Big sis bathing little sis was pretty beautiful though.

p.s. I totally agree about Debra Winger.

watched last weekend.
anne impressive.
film itself trite.
only enjoyed one character: sister
and one scene: fight with mother.

really like eulogy. especially when the old man's video let's them in on what he was really up to when he was supposed to be working his traveling salesman gig... and any scene involving famke's character.

My girlfriend and I also watched this movie last week. I'm not sure I really enjoyed it, although I am generally a fan of movies about dysfunctional families. The movie made me feel like I was also an addict, except I wanted more story, not drugs.

Debra Winger is so beautiful. I like how she smiles with her eyes and not just her mouth.

I love reading your blog, Scribe! Keep it up.
